Developed as a desperate weapon in the final war years, the Mistel represented an innovative solution for precision attacks against fortified targets. The Bf 109F pilot guided the combination to the target, then detached leaving the automatically piloted Ju 88 to strike the objective. Despite the concept's audacity, it had limited use due to fuel shortages and lack of experienced pilots.
