The Savoia Marchetti S.M.79 "Sparviero" was a tri-motor, low-wing multi-role aircraft initially designed for civil and postal transport.

Constructed with a mixed composition of wood, metal, and fabric, it set numerous world records by the late 1930s.

Also known as "the cursed hump" due to the hump behind the cockpit that housed the dorsal gunner, it was primarily used as a bomber initially and later as a torpedo bomber, operating throughout the conflict mainly in the Mediterranean and remaining in service in Italy until 1950.
